You have to understand that no one is born naturally confident. Confidence is a skill that is mastered through the years and it very much depends on the kind of mindset we choose to use.
There are two types of mindsets: a fixed mindset & a growth mindset. A fixed mindset is the belief that you are “naturally” born a certain way, that if you’re not good at one thing then you’ll never be good at it. People with fixed mindsets take things more personally, and believe there’s only one way to achieve success – through talent.
A growth mindset on the other hand, is when you believe there is always room for improvement. You look at problems as opportunities. Feedback isn’t as scary because you see it as a chance to better your skills, to grow from your experiences. And you see success as something anyone can achieve, when you put in the work and continue to learn.
We build confidence when we allow ourselves to come back to a difficult task over and over again, until we understand it better – until we’re confident in it.
The first step to building more confidence in yourself is to be aware of the mindset you’re choosing.
When you’re faced with a difficult situation, instead of getting upset about it and finding someone to blame, ask yourself these questions:
- What can I learn from this?
- What can I do better and how?
- What good can I still choose to see in this moment?
The next big step in building up your confidence is to pay attention to your environment.
Is your room a mess? Are there dirty dishes everywhere? Have your sheets not been washed in 6 months?
Clean up your space.
When you begin to feel like you have control over your environment, you’ll begin to feel more in control of the rest of your life. So make your bed, organize your drawers, and tidy up.
On the same note, be intentional about who you spend your time with. Look for people who are better than you and who share their knowledge with you. People who encourage you and who are also not afraid to challenge you.
Having those people in your life will instantly elevate your well-being.
And lastly (for now), dress to impress yourself.
I think we can all agree that when we think we look good…well, damn. We feel gooood.
When I put on my favorite pair of jeans, a cute top, and curl my hair? I feel on top of the world!
Wear what makes you feel like your version of Beyoncé, whether that’s a pair of distressed jeans or a fitted dress. You do you, boo boo.
