If you know me, you know I’m always reading a book. And this year there have been some real good ones. With only four days left of the decade (wait, what?!), I thought it would be fitting to do a blog post about the best books I read this year.

To Hell with the Hustle by Jefferson Bethke

This book arrived in the mail a couple of weeks ago and I’d read through it in five days. It. was. so. good. Bethke writes about how we’ve begun to lose sight of what it’s all about. He compares us with a frog that’s placed in a bot of water, which gradually begins to boil. The frog doesn’t realize that it’s in danger until it’s too late. In the same way, we have begun to automatically fill our days with things that we believe will make an impact without thinking of the long-term effects. It was an incredible read, highly recommend.

Everything is Figuroutable by Marie Forleo

Okay, in full transparency I’m still reading (just started it last night) and it is SO GOOD. Holy moly, why did it take me so long to read this?! Marie is a gem. She makes you laugh with her wit, fires you with her passion, and gives you the tools to turn your life around. I’m hooked.

Deep work by Cal Newport

I listened to the audiobook version over the summer and want to get the print version as well so I can underline and soak up the content even more. Cal explains how “deep work” is one of the greatest practices we can do. On average, we can only place intense concentration on a particular task for 3-4 hours in a day. In this book, he breaks down how to do this (and why it’s important) in order to get deep results in our work.

How to get sh*t done by Erin Falconer

This read came at the best time for me. I read Erin’s book early this year when I was in a severe season of burn-out. Don’t let the title fool you, as much as you think the book will be about hustling harder and being more productive; it’s filled with personal stories and revelations of how to let go of tasks that are unnecessary, and how to experience more fulfillment in your life and business. This book filled me up more than most other reads I’ve read, and I’ve gifted it to about 80% of my coaching gals.

Girl, stop apologizing by Rachel Hollis

One of the few books that I have actually read all the way through twice. Holy cow, I have never felt so empowered and passionate after reading a book before. Rachel knows how to fire you up! I love how the chapters are short, very digestible. Once you pick it up, it’ll be hard to put it down.

High Performance habits by Brendon Bruchard

This was one of the first books I read this year, and really set the tone for me. I love how Brendon hones in on the importance of practicing healthy habits. He explains that the world’s high performers (meaning the people you perceive as being driven or successful) practice six core habits, having to do with: clarity, energy, necessity, productivity, influence, and courage. If you’re wanting to change your life and begin pursuing a healthier lifestyle, this is the book to start with.

Insta Brain by Sarah Weiss

I’m still in the middle of this read, and it’s incredibly fascinating so far. Despite the title, it’s not purely about Instagram, ha. The entire book is about how to market to Gen Z, the generation that is already changing the rules of the game. I’ve been spouting off facts about this generation seemingly non-stop since I picked up the book, and am truly fascinated by their approach. Such a good read!

Do less by Kate Northrup

If you’re a woman, read this. The entire book is about how our menstrual cycle plays such a key part, not only in the way we feel, also in the way we can approach our businesses. Did you know that during different weeks of our cycle, we are more wired to plan business meetings & during other weeks, we operate best to reflect on things and wrap up projects? It’s an incredible read.

One million followers by Brendan Kane

The moment I read about how Brendan had worked with Taylor Swift, and read an example of how she’s been able to build such a loyal following…I was hooked. This book is filled with so many marketing gems, it’s unbelievable. I loved reading it, and have enjoyed experimenting with some of his strategies since!

Becoming by Michelle Obama

There are not a lot of biographies that I gravitate towards, however Michelle’s was written so eloquently and with such grace that I couldn’t put it down. I loved reading her side of how her upbringing impacted the rest of her approach to life, how her and Barack met, and their journey to the White House. I would read it again – 100%.

What were some of your favorite reads from this year?! I’d love to know, tell me in the comments!
